Smiles for studentsA program collaboration with Garfield County Public Health to reach second, third, sixth and seventh grade students in schools in Garfield, Pitkin, and Eagle counties. Children receive oral evaluations, cleanings, sealants, fluoride varnishes, treatment referrals, and oral health education.

By the Numbers: In the 2014-15 school year, 1,477 students were served in 20 schools, which represent 46% of the total school populations in the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 7th grades. 359 (24%) children were referred to dental treatment. All children were referred to a dentist if they did not have a dental home. 830 cavities were identified. 3,628 sealants were placed on 924 children’s molars.

Smiles for Seniors

Smiles for SeniorsThis program that provides Adults age 60 and over with oral evaluations, oral cancer screenings, cleanings, fluoride varnishes, oral health education, and treatment referrals.
Overall, the focus is to provide quality preventative care for seniors from Aspen to Parachute and to connect them with a dental home.

By the Numbers 2015: 100 seniors were served, and 100% were referred for routine treatment with 64% referred to dental treatment with urgent dental needs (pain, severe infection, or oral lesions). 60% of the seniors served has not seen a dentist in more than a year.

Cavity Free at Three

CavityFreeatThreeA program with a mission to eliminate early childhood caries in Colorado’s children, helping them to grow up free of dental disease. APDHA is educating the dental and medical profession as well as many HHS staff on the concept of dental homes starting at age one, while enhancing parental knowledge about the importance of oral health care for their children.

By the Numbers 2015: This year 60 individuals were trained in Cavity Free at Three. The trainings were provided to dental offices, medical offices, Head Start, Family Visitor Programs, and other health and human service providers. Visit the Cavity Free at Three website here.
